Nutmeg Orchid Society was organized in 2008 and is affiliated with the American Orchid Society.
NSOS meets 12:30 to 4:30 the first or second Sunday of the month in Unionville, CT. ( See the Events tab for the actual date & time.)
Our monthly meetings offer a Show & Tell table, plants for sale, access to a lending library, and well known speakers from across the United States.
We also offer an annual picnic, an annual orchid show, and other special events that provide opportunities for members to learn about orchids.
The next NSOS meeting is on May 3, 2026 - 12:30 to 4:00 pm. Daryl Yerdon, President of NHOS, will talk about his trip to Ecuador. He will show photos of orchids encountered in situ and tell you how knowledge of their growing conditions can help you grow your orchids at home
4/24/2026 - Kudos to the following on their awards at last month's show.
Catherine Scheckton receive an AOS award, the Best Plant in Show and the Best Phragmipedium for her Phrag Majestic Tresses 'Margherita Inessa' at our Show.
Sandy Myhalik won the Best Standard Phalaenopsis for Phal Taisuco Anna, and the Best Small/Miniature Phalaenopsis for Phal aphrodite.
Our Art Deco themed display, designed by Len Yanavich, won the Orchid Digest trophy.

NSOS provides many tools for our members to learn about orchids. Our speakers provide invaluable information regarding basic orchid care and propagation as well as sharing their visits to natural orchid habitats.
Our Robert Hirnyk library has an extensive collection of books that members can borrow.
