October 2026 - Message from the President

Hi everyone,     Happy Fall!

If you weren't at the auction meeting yesterday you missed a lot of fun, good food and great plants.  We had about 75 plants in total, at least half in bud or flower.     We had some spirited bidding on more than a few of the plants which made for a fun time.   I think the prize for most plants won has to got to Len and Mike who have a new greenhouse to fill and were clearly determined to do so!

Special THANK YOU to our auctioneers, Steve Calderon and Rob Dudley.  We quite literally could not have done it without you.   Thank you to everyone who helped with set up and takedown and bringing food to share, and to our plant donors: Karen Timko-Gelber, Mark Wendell, George Grillo, Sandy Myhalik, J&L, Carrie Buchman, Julia Haverl, myself, and Daryl Yerdon.  We also had plants from Taida and Sunset Valley Orchids. All in all a great event!

Next meeting will be November 1st.   Joe and Beth Silva from Silva Orchids will be our speakers.   Topic TBD.

Next show - Massachusetts Orchid Society show - World of Orchids: Rooted in History - Nov 6-8

Now that fall has arrived your plants may not need as much watering as they did over the summer.  Also, as the heat comes on, so do some pests.....keep an eye out for mealy bug!    Need culture info for any new babies you acquired recently?  Check out the Culture Sheets at AOS.org.
